“Illegal raves (not to be confused with commercial ones organized in mega-nightclubs) are self-managed “dance parties,” mass gatherings in locations of industrial archaeology, temporarily occupied, redesigned, and transfigured for the occasion into spaces filled with Techno music. Thousands of people dance in these “temporarily autonomous zones” continuously throughout the night, sometimes for several consecutive days. Police and control apparatuses across Europe closely monitor these events with great concern. In England, where the rave movement was born and spread rapidly, heavy repressive measures have already been implemented. However, as recounted by ravers engaged in the English and Italian scenes in this book, the new wave is unstoppable.” Rave Off
